I took a few photos at the opening of Kate Brown and Paul Duffield‘s show at Orbital Comics on Saturday. Here’s a couple of my favourites:

BERG‘s Matt Jones also showed a few people a quick preview of their forthcoming comic SVK by Warren Ellis and D’Israeli, complete with UV torch. This made for some wonderfully animated faces.

Paper Science 4 debut from Anne Holiday on Vimeo.
I made a film to capture Paper Science 4‘s debut this past weekend at the Sci-Fi London festival.
Big thanks to Timothy Winchester, Edward Ross and Matthew Sheret who let me parade a camera in front of their faces pretty much all day. And to The Orchestral Movement of 1932 for the music.
The final part of the Drawing the Line: London During the Student Protests series was published by Cartoon Movement this week. It’s called ‘Acceptable Behaviour’.

Of the three stories in the series, this one probably has the greatest resonanace for people. Here, there are obvious victims and clear villains which makes the piece easier to identify with, to locate among what you know to have happened during the protests and how you square those actions with what we collectively perceive to be acceptable human behaviour.
But it is a different story to the other two tales in the series where, I hope, who you care about, who you trust and who you empathise with are a little more difficult to tease out.
This final tale shares its narrative with many stories that were circulated on facebook, twitter and other social media during the protests. While mainstream channels weren’t telling stories about the kid who was trampled on by police, or listening to the guy whose girlfriend was doubled over in pain, these were things that happened to real people. I saw them. And they’re just as valid and important a perspective as the rest.
I suppose that’s what each of these stories has in common, a different perspective.
Part II of mine and Tom Humberstone‘s comic series about the student protests is published by Cartoon Movement today. It’s called “Making Your Mark”. Click on the preview to see the full thing.
Next Wednesday, the final installment “Acceptable Behaviour” goes live. I’ll blog a little about the making of the series then. I mentioned the stories we didn’t tell on my tumblr last week and I’d like to flesh those out in a bit more detail.
Part 1 of a 3 part series by Tom Humberstone and I called Drawing the line: London during the student protests is published today by Cartoon Movement. This first comic is called Warning. Click on the preview to be taken to the full thing.
I am immensely proud of the series. I said at the beginning of the year I wanted to “Do more. Be Better.” And take note: the series will mean Tom and I’s page count is up to 8 pages this year, that’s 100% higher than last year and it’s not even the end of January.
The second comic will go live next Wednesday.
